BR20 service manual wanted

Hi All,

I have the BR-20 Operations and Maintenance manual that you can downloas from tascam.

Now I'm looking for the service manual that includes alignment info and schematics. Not sure of its name.

So does anyone have this manual in pdf that they want to share (or know of its location). I could host it on my server for others too.

Baring a pdf how about a hard copy?

Still need that manual

Now that I have a BR-20 in hand I would like to get a manual even more than ever.

Also any comments onthe BR are welcome.

Just form the little that I have done with it here at work it is a very nice deck that handles the tape gently. IT has both balanced (real or otherwise) and unbalanced inputs and outputs. Also it can print at 250 or 320 nWb/m. And from what I have read the European version will do 320 or 514 nWb/m but with a wider track width.

On the back it has a cutout for adding a Mic pre (MA-20). I may need to install some DIY pre inthe cutout....

Congrats on scoring the BR-20! :)

It's basically the last in the line from a long, rich history of really nice deuces in TASCAM's line of stereo mastering decks.

I think your only real hope of getting the actual service manual is to break down and call TASCAM's parts department out in Montebello and order the proper paper version with the multi-page centerfold diagrams and schematics.

I'll assume that your unit is at least third hand as you mentioned the seller doesn't have any paperwork on the unit...original owners generally keep at the manual and in rare cases, the original TASCAM shipping carton with the nice Styrofoam inserts.

Don't be discouraged. Even if yours needs a calibration and some fresh rubber to bring it back to factory spec, it's a lot cheaper and quicker to get two channels mint then 16! ;)

I presume that I will have to get a real manual but was checking before spending the money.

This deck is 3rd hand. It was originally bought for a community college and basically spent its time unused. From there it went to a guy who wanted to get some old taped onto cd and then to a stage manager who knew he could make a quick buck.

It has a claimed 150 hours on it and looks pretty much unused. Just a little wear on the guides. So that number may be true.
Looks like a very clean deck.
 
Well, if that's the case, it sounds like you've got yourself a real gem! :)

As to the optional microphone input module, do you really foresee yourself making use of that or would a traditional outboard mixer/stereo pre-amp not be the better sonic option?

DIY mic pre

Yes, I just was able to put my MRL tape on it tonight. +- 1 dB 31.5 to 20 kHz. Just need to touch it up. Quite a gem.

I do not need the built in mic pre actually. It really just struck my fancy for a moment. My primary goal for this machine is onsite, direct to tape, 2 channel sterio recordings of classical pipe organ.

I can use my DMP3 for now.

I am building a DIY Jensen Twin Servo mic pre at the moment to replace the DMP3. Here is a link to John Hardy's site (who makes Jensen Twin Servo pre)

That will make the weak link the Oktaba Mk012 at the moment. Someday I'll need to spring for (perhaps) some ribbons.
