Boy I love the concrete walls...

...but I'm not going to be able to leave them untreated, am I?

I'll post photos this weekend, but here's the run-down. This is a basement room that's 21.7 X 12.6. The ceiling is 10' but isn't finished yet. Two of the walls are bare concrete, and they sure are pretty! The other two walls are drywall. The floor is still bare concrete.

There is a storage closet off one side that my wife has donated 10' feet of. It has 10' ceiling as well. I haven't walled it off yet. My thought is to use this as a vocal booth.

I guess my questions are:

How much of this should be carpeted?
How much of the bare concrete walls can I retain?
Will wedge and egg crate foam alone be sufficient for the walls?
If insulation is stuffed between the joists, will a suspended (acoustic) ceiling suffice?

Lotsa work to do, but it beats the hell out of the 12X12X7 room I was in at the last house!

I would keep some of the concrete so that room is not too dead. You will need a bass trap or 2 in the room so you could build one in the corner were the 2 concrete walls meet.

Build a wide band absorber on each of the concrete walls and a couple of simple defusers. What is on the floor? If its live, Concrete or wood use some ceiling clouds, there is a thread talking about these on this forum.

I have attached (I hope) a photo of my room, the dark red wall is painted concrete, the red cloth panel is the wide band absorber, the curved ply panels are defusers. The gray panel next to the control room window is a absorber with a bass trap behind, and the end red wall has a bass trap built in behind the plasterboard (low frequencies trap).

Let's see if these pics work. Well, they're a bit small. Morphed in MS Paint, gotta be a better way.

In any case, need some help coming up with some ideas for treating the concrete walls and ceiling. I knida shot my wad building this house, so much of the acoustic components will be scratch-built at home.

Hold Everything!!!

Through some semi-shrewd negotiating I have been upgraded to the room we originaly had slated for a home theater! This space is 26' X 13.6 and is completely drywalled.

We decided that the smaller room would be more than sufficient for a 101" projected screen, and would still seat eight folks comfortably. My wife is a real sport sometimes!

Anyway, the other room will still need a ceiling and some planning. It's got a 3'X15' equipment closet, some of which will serve nicely as a small vocal booth. The other cool thing is no duct work to box-in.

Still need advice about floor, wall and ceiling treatment.
