Does anyone have any experience with Bourgeois acoustic guitars (I'm using Bourgeois as a make not a general description)? Are they good?

I've played a couple. I liked them a lot. Kinda pricey, but the playability, look, and feel are similar to higher end guitars of similar price.

I used to work in a store that carried these guitars. I also own one of their archtops. They're excellent in both quality and sound. They only use the best tonewoods and use the best production techniques. Realistically, they're the same price as a nice martin or taylor, but honestly, there's no comparison. None! Of course its my opinion, and I'm sure people out there love their taylor or martin, but based on quality of wood and craftsmanship, the Bourg. is much more guitar.

I've seen them, but I never got to play one, since I am handicapped being a lefty. I have heard good things about them, though...

Bourgeois are hand made and they are not in the same price range or class as Martins and Taylors--except the very high-end ones. Bourgeois is a major step up IMO. I believe the dreadnaughts use the old Martin pre-war bracing. I could be wrong on that, though.

Good guitars, and Dana is a good guy.

Thanks much, guys!

So it would seem that my friend who is selling his is asking less than half what it's worth:

1995 Bourgeois Jumbo OM
Cedar top, mahogany back and sides, Ivoroid-bound rosewood fretboard.
OM width proportions with 4.5" body depth. Scale 25.5".
1 3/4" nut width. 15.5 lower bout. SN. 000245. With OHSC. $1200.

Wow, a cedar-topped jumbo. That's different. It's a great price. But do you LOVE it?

Haven't played it yet. I'm actually helping another friend decide if she wants to buy it (but if she doesn't......) :o

FWIW, George Lowden made this combo famous (sort of) with his original "O" model.
