What are the pros and cons of bouncing tracks when you are recording on a computer that is limited to track count like the Digi 001? Only 24 tracks, but in actuality this plenty for a lot of artist?
the only cons with digital is that you lose individual control over the tracks that youve combined (levels, effects, etc)...if the pro of improved track count is worth it, do it....and with digital you could always save backups of all the original tracks so that if you dont like how the bounce worked out, you can do it again....
Is 24 tracks alot?....depends on your recording style and style of music yada yada...24 tracks is easy to use up, especially if you track drums on different tracks....
kick
snare
overhead
overhead
toms
toms
toms
room mic
bass direct
bass mic
guitar l
guitar r
acoustic guitar
keyboard l
keyboard r
guitar lead
lead vocal
doubled lead vocal
background vocal
background vocal
as you can see im up to 20 tracks with just a basic little 5 piece band and only 3 guitar tracks......
Plus the more tracks you add and especially when you start adding realtime plug-in effects, it's gonna start bogging down your computer. I know mine couldn't even handle 24 tracks without effects. So mixing down several tracks when you have a lot of them will lighten the load on the computer and it will play better without dropping out or hiccuping all the time.
