Bouncing tracks on Tascam Porta 02

I'm using a Tascam Ministudio Porta 02 (see below) and, as I understand it, you can bounce (or ping pong) up to three recorded tracks onto one vacant track, allowing you three "spare" tracks to work with.

My question is do you need a separate mixing console to get this to work? Any help would be much appreciated.

You would think you could - but I found the manual and it looks like the only way is to mix your 4 tracks down to 2 on an external cassette deck, then use that cassette back in the Porta 02 and record 2 more tracks.

I had a Yamaha 4-track cassette many years ago and I know you could ping-pong internally with that machine.
