As I play catch-up in this game, thought I'd drop this here FYI for other nuebees like me.
From a post over at the sonar news group where those good folks were helping me out...
After I did my big test, and made all these notes, I see y'all already been there, don that! :>) Well this is a fairly big sucky-sucky. I ran into this near the end of a 30+ track, mostly mixed project, with about six or eight sets of groups.
One thing I didn't check- Does this effect all grouped controls, or just volume faders?
I thought the bit where the faders and their envelpoes no longer agreeing was interesting.
The TEST
A six-track song. Set tracks 1-2@-3, 3-4@-6, 5-6@-10.
'Bounce to clip' track 6, ok, all volumes remain unchanged. (Did a 'save' after each successful step.)
Add 'group' to volume faders tracks 3-4. Did another 'Bounce' on track 5. This time faders on tracks 3-4 change to 0 db.
Now for the scary part.
'Edit,Un-do' function removes the bounce, but does not restore the grouped tracks to their previous setting. This was consistent in all the tests. The only way to get back to my previous mix is to close without saving. (Yikes!)
Test with volume and gain envelopes got even weirder. Gain envelopes on the non- bounced tracks were not effected. Tracks with volume envelopes however, have their faders reset to zero (and play back as such), but the envelope still indicates the old lower setting. -They no longer indicate the same volume.
Also tried some of the tests by selecting clips directly vs highlighting the track number, but it made no difference.
(As side note, I found that when doing 'Export Audio' it effects the results- If you select a track that is trimmed or is shorter than the full song length, the exported file is as long as the song. If you select the clip(s) directly, it retains the trimmed length. I found this after printing my 2-track mix ('bounce to tracks'), trimming the ends and fades, then exporting.)
