the guy who sold me the digi 002 rack told me to get a pc since a mac would not be able to install all the plug in's he gave me.
can anyone recommend a good pc?
some additional questions:
laptop or desktop?
additional internal hd or external hd?

Well weigh your options here. How many plugins would you lose going with a mac? Do you want to put up with the possible headaches of a pc running protools to keep a few plugs, or could you sacrifce them for a more stable worry free setup. If you do some searches on this and other forums you'll find far more people with problems running protools on pc than on a mac. In fact at 1299 the Imac really isn't a bad solution, I usually max out all 32 tracks on a solid rock mix with no problems on my Imac.

he's overreacting. I've used Pro Tools on both a PC and a Mac.
True, PT was originally created for the Mac and is more popular on there....but it's by no means less of a headache. I still can crash a mac just as much as I crash a PC. I run Pro Tools full time on a PC and it's fine.
It's not fitting Pro Tools with a PC or Mac you need to worry about....it's which OS you want to work with. I personally think PT works fine with either platform, but certain people like Windows and others like the Mac OS.

Find out what you're comfortable with and go with it. But PCs are cheaper and a little more "consumer friendly", IMO.

I'm not a MAC guy but I'v heard that protools works better on a MAC. at least thats what I hear or maybe it just looks good together

Ne ne, ne ne, ne ne, ne ne, MacMan

Ive always been a windows man, UNTIL I USED A MAC - Ditch the Plugins, get a mac! With PC's componentry is cobbled together from everywhere and we expect it to work seamlessly?????, with a mac EVERYTHING is DESIGNED to work TOGETHER - and it does. My advise whatever you choose would be to get a dual core system with a very good processor and lots of RAM. P.S Have fun with PT - It is the Dogs...

Cheers
Chris

Whatever you choose, read the Digidesign website closely--particulary the detailed sections on system requirements. If you get a Mac don't be under the illusion that noting can go wrong. It's a computer and bad things happen, particularly under the demands placed on the system by audio recording. I've owned too many Macs (Performa, G2 225MgHz, G4 450 MgHz, Flat Panel I-Mac, G-5 2GHz I-mac, and several i-books) and trust me, shit happens! So, while your shopping for your new G5, make sure you invest in a copy of TechTool or Disk Warrior. Load the Disk Utilities application in your dock so you can access it when all hell breaks loose and pick up a copy of Ted Landau's book OS X Help Line. It's big, it's yellow, it's fatter than a small stack of bibles, and it's a valuable resource when you are faced with something sinister like the "blue screen of death" or it's less troublesome counterpart "the spinning pizza wheel."

dude, its simply a no brainer.. MAC.
i have used pc's since 1996 and i can more than call myself an expert pc tech. i used to swear by pc's. until about 3 months ago...

i am a musician, with lots of equiptment and i was looking to do my own recording. i saw much like you, pc or mac. i got so tired of pc's problems..

dont get me wrong, shit happens with mac's too.. well not often enough to hate them. so here i am, posting on your forum with my nice 14" iBook which i adopted, rather that having my own child; a pc that would have been built from the ground up and costed THE SAME MONEY.. the price difference is not all that much at all.

a great man once said, "With a Mac, it just works." and he was correct.

also, if you go pc (please dont) than it will have to be only for recording. do not even think about pluging that internet line in it!. the only cd in its drive should be ProTools.

Another great thing about mac; it has this fucking awesome slot-load disk drive!! it's so cool!!
