If memory serves, that's the brown Boss octave pedal, which I have, and like for a limited range of applications.

Cons are:
- Doesn't track that well - you need to play cleanly. Also probably helps to have a compressor before it in the chain
- Can't handle more than one note at once - makes UGLY noises if you feed it more than one note (or if you play messily)

I love it for:
- Long sustained multi-octave textural lines
- Emulating 8string bass when playing in a trio (nice hendrix/King's X fatness and spacefilling
- As with all boss pedals, it's rugged as hell

I have the pedal myself and I'll agree with pretty much all of what Steve said.
Though it IS possible to play two notes at once with the pedal active. Though you'll have to sit there awhile and find the few that do sound fine.
