Looking for something to always have around to capture those spontaneous jams or ideas. It will be mostly used with the built in mic. Simultaneously recording 2 tracks is preferred, hopefully using the built in mic, as well as plugging one in. I'm pretty sure both can record 2 simultaneously, but not sure if they can both use the built in mic and a plugged in mic simultaneously.

I know the Boss comes with more features, but it's the quality of the built in mic and micing options that are important.

All comments welcomed please!

I haven't used either so I can't opine, but you might find this chart handy. Note that if you plan on using an external mic, both units' phantom power is pretty limited and may affect your ability to use an external mic. I'd also ask your question over on the Tapers Section forum. You may be more likely to get a knowledgeable response there.

You might look at the Yamaha 1600. You can do 8 tracks at once if you want to.

You can use "Phantom" power if you need. Sound quality is very good as well as excellent Dynamics.

It takes a bit to learn how it works; it is not difficult. And, you can punch in a 101 set of lessons for the unit to guide you along.

Have not heard much good about Tascam units as they seem to be trying to patch up their products. The bigger BR unit is similar to the Yamaha.

You can check it out on-line.
