I've been thinking about maybe getting the Boss GT6 effects pedal (due to some recommendations at the Guitar Mania message board) and I was wondering if anyone has used it and what the opinions were of it.
Has anyone ever compared it to the J-Station (the pedal I "was" thinking about getting)?

Thanx,

Hey, another guitar maniac.

Comparing the J-station to the GT-6 is not easy. they are very different things. I'd compare the POD to the GT6 and say that if your after effects get the GT6 and if your after tones go for the POD. I believe the J-station to be much more in line with the POD for what it can do, and though the J-station has bass patches and some different effects I'd go with the POD over the J-station.

The new GT6 seems very good, and well priced also. I have seen by Marc's demonstations that it also has amp modeling (though not up to the standard of the POD/J-station).

If you buy the POD (though it doesn't seem to be in the running her) you'd also have to buy additional effects. I could have also bought the GT6 and used it in front of my POD pro but instead opted for the TC electronics G major as it's a stand alone effects processor; you should check that out as well.

I'm sure Gidge will try and convince you to buy the J-station. What you need to stipulate really is what youd be using it for. The obvious answer would be to get the two side by side and use your ears.

I have to say so far from what I've seen with the GT6 that it certainly would be a good purchase.

There's a Digitech GNX2 under da tree. I couldn't make up my mind between it and the GT6 so I flipped a coin. If you wind up with the Boss unit, I'd like to compare notes with you after Xmas.

I will say I was impressed with the "morphing" feature of the Digijunk, but we'll see.

only have experience with the GT-3 and that just had a litlle to much the typical Roland Sound. I still rather play with a few standalones and a descent Fender amp.

Oh dear, I'm whining again:D. I would just go to the shop and try the GT-6.

greetingz

sorry Krystof,

Im gonna have to go GT6....unless money $$$ is an issue....The GT6 is $399 and you can pickup the J-Station for $149.....

if you will be playing live at all, it is the GT6 all the way...no question.......

i said this is another post and ill say it again...i was trying out a GT6 at Guitar Center and i thought they were gonna have to kick me out of the place when they closed....awesome......side by side, it took me 2 hours to pick my J-Station over the POD.....side by side it would take me 2 minutes to pick the GT6 if money wasnt an issue.......

Yep, thanx to Gidge. :)

I heard the archive where Marc A/B the GT6 and the POD and even though it wasn't that great quality, (and I know internet audio istn' the best way to audition them) I liked the tone of the GT6 alot better. Even over the internet, it still sounds better than my Digitech RP14 (the distortions totally suck it).

I've heard alot of people that say they liked the J-Station over the POD, which is why I chose the J-Station in stead of the POD (although I suppose I could have still added it in there).

I plan on it, I just wanted to get a general opinion first. But I plan on trying both of them and a POD.

We'll have to wait and see how much my college courses and books are going to be this semester.....then what ever's left is going into the hands of a Guitar Center salesman. :D

That's another possibility, we just got some new musicians for our youth group's worship band (a drummer and a bass player), and the drummer plays in a band and I'm going to see if they want a second guitar player. So depending on if I "get the part", that will decide on whethere or not I get a guitar pedal (otherwise I may hold off on some gear for the "studio"), I'm just checking out some options right now so I have a good idea on what I want when the time comes.

There I think that's everything.....

Thanx for the suggestions,

hey gidge, yea i was looking at that j-station(money wise). will this sucker record fairly quiet? i don't think i'll use it live. and BTW, can i find a pedal to put at the end of my other 3 pedals to keep the hiss outa the track?(while saving for my j-station).

To whom it may enlighten....

GNX-2 for $339 at musiciansbuy.com

I have a gt-6 and Im overall pretty happywith it. The effects are quality but the Amp modeling I dont use very often. Theres alot of stuff I cant use. Lots of over the top lead sounds. You can get just about any sound you want out of it. Lots of different types of distortion. 400 bucks its well worth it

jw,

the J-station has a gate on it and you can hear a pin drop when you arent playing....even when playing, its not noisey at all.....with a single coil pickup you will get a little hum but if you are playing at a decent level its pretty unnoticable....

you could go with a standalone noise gate......Behringer has an Autocom Pro which is a compressor/limiter/gate/exciter for $79...this sucker will serve you many purposes from bass to guitar to vocals to drums.....

btw, i recieved that package and enjoying it quite a bit...great songwriting and very well recorded......Bluewater Highway is a killer tune.....with all the good music that gets posted here, its seldom i hear something that feels so much like home.....

I've been trying out a GT6 for about a week now. It sounds very processed to me no matter how you edit it. Mine's going back in the next couple days. I think the Pod is a much more realistic sounding device.

Personally I don't worry about sounding processed or real or sounding just like a certain vintage amp, just as long as it sounds good, which I guess I'll have to decide that for myself when I go try them out.

When listening to the clip where Marc (from Guitar Mania) compared the GT6 and the POD, I thought that the GT6 had a more.....a more.....oh what's the word?....well lets put it this way, the POD sounded more like my RP14 than the GT6 did. :D So although the GT6 may sound processed, I thought that in that clip the GT6 sounded much better.

well, no box will ever sound like a mic'ed tube amp in the same way an apple will never taste like an orange....the GT6 rocks.....i rather oranges......
