we don't need rest!!
Been pickin' on a new one of these (version 1.02 software), and this thing rocks. Great sounds all around...but you have to tweak it. Factory presets are ho-hum. Make your own patch and it rocks.

The "dynamic sensitivity" feature on it where it can morph between two patches due to picking strength, volume changes...whatever is a fantastic feature and works great. Probably makes the GT-8 worth it almost just for this feature. Many uses for it.

Just thought I'd share.

This thing kicks booty over the Line 6 XTlive and the Tonelab in my opinion. Haven't really had too much experience with the Digitech stuff, but heard those effects were kinda noisy. The GT-8 is VERY quiet.

five stars

If you want the "dynamic mode", I would say yes. To me that is one of the MAJOR upgrades from the GT6.

However, they aren't that cheap at $450.

Do you think it's worth upgrading to from the GT-6?

I don't think so, you got screwed with that gt-6 just like me, don't get scewed twice. I tried the gt-8 (family member owns it), sure there are 2-3 new cool features, but it's still digital....

my two cents :)

did you go much past the presets? ...and/or run it into a tube amp?

I am finding that if you only spend a quick evening with it, you haven't spent enough time with it.

If you are just against "digital", then I won't waste my breath...but..

My Roland GR33 was initially the same way. If you dialed thru the presets, and only added extra chorus, or whatever, you didn't 'tweak' enuff.

Anyway, it took me a quite awhile to really get into the unit..... but then I am from Kentuckee, and we aren't nown for bein' the britest bulb on the strand!

i've been toiling with this...
getting a gt-8 for $450 or spending $1000+ for peddles.
I know the peddles sound better, but I'm not a pro.
The Gt-8 is hella convienent, if it is anything like the gt-3 I once had.
with peddles your always buying batteries, and if you go the adapter route that is a couple hundred dollars just for adapters for 6 or 7 peddles.
I am leaning toward the gt-8, If I was pro i would definately get the peddles though.

Weird...I love the shit out of mine...

I'm not unsatisfied with the gt-6, running in a triple xxx return is pretty good. If you buy it for the effects, go for it you'll be satisfied, but the preamp section sucks big times. it's 3 years I tweak and tweak and tweak and yet the only thing that can compare to the tripple x is the 5150 preset with dist at about 30, and the cleans. Others are kinda really bright and agressive to the ear. The Mesas are way not mesa. And the direct recording sounds like total crap, tried for days and got absolutely nothing good, exept when I placed a mixer after and made the mixer clip...

I have a Behringer bass v-amp pro and one of the guitar amp emulation sounds better then the gt-6 one. The DI is already much better, eventho this is a bass preamp. and it cost me 200$ CAN compared to 750$ for the 6 4 years ago. But, no effects.

SO you already have the gt-6 effects you're good with, I would'nt waste money and time on the gt-8.

By the way, the cab sims are turned off when playing in the return.

Hope this clarifies my point of view :D

I may be misunderstanding your hookup and/or post, but the newer software version in the GT8 allows for the cabinet simulations in all output selections...not just the line/phones setting.

Maybe you were also running the 4 cable method too, but I would think you could still use the cab sims again also.

no, i meant i turn the cab sims off on the gt-6, and plug direct in the return of the triple x, bypassing it's preamp, not the 4 cable method
