I had a Boss DR5 a couple of years ago and now have a DR660 that I just got. How do these compare? They seem familiar but the DR5 seemed to have more available compared to the DR660 but that might be my memory. I do remember the DR5 seemed to have a footswitch capability to stop and start that the 660 doesn't seemed to have although I expect you can start and start with midi.

Comparisons?

Thanks,

They both have their own benefits.

The main advantages of the DR-660 over the DR-5 are the flanger/reverb and broader pitch, decay and wet/dry nuance settings. It also has more drum sounds. Many techno and house producers used these two machines together in the mid-1990s. The amp simulator on the DR-5 can really pump up some drums run through it from another machine. I'm not selling either anytime soon. If you're a guitar player looking for a backing track to jam on, the DR-5 is better because you don't need a mixer. Personally, I prefer the 660. The editability + effects make it a bad little techno machine.

I'm pretty sure it was used in these tracks:

is the 550 MkII much of an improvement on the MkI?

Can they run on batteries?
