Nope! Don't do it!
No. I mean, it's good if you ONLY want drum kits and a little bass. But other than that I would rather you get the Boss DR-5. Now, the reason why I say this is because I had a chance to work 'em both, but I've had
the Boss DR-5 probably 2 years before I meet the DR-202. Boss DR-5 simply has way more sounds than DR-202. And if or when you get tired of those sounds (and you probably will if you use every sound in the book already), the next recommendation I would give you is
a Roland MC-505. This is real good for a hip-hop production tool because is can tackle any style of beats you want due to it's different sounds. You could get that grimy vibe or that mainstream, commercial vibe. Other than,
Akai MPC 2000 is the greatest tool to use for Hip-Hop beats now knowing that everyone still uses it. Producers like Swiss Beatz use it along with Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Beat Junkies, RZA from the Wu-Tang Clan, so it's very popular in the hip-hop community as far as music production wise.
Boss DR-202 is maybe good for a beginner, but I believe it's just a waist of time. You just can't feed a teenager baby food.
