I honestly would recommend juat about anything BOSS makes. They have been at it quite a while, making quality products all along. I have a BOSS DR5 and it's an amazing machine....I run up against the learning curve with just about everything though. That's what happens when you bring a dinosaur into the world of technology! You should be just fine.

Or a ZOOM 123

I've heard great stuff about the Boss Dr's, though nothing yet about the 3. It's probably great... Less $$, more stuff. I own a Zoom RT-123 and couldn't be happier. Has both percussion and bass, lots of preset "songs" lots of ability to be user programmed. It also runs about $169.00. Check out both online on their respectice sites. But either way you'll probably do just fine.

Checked out the Boss

It looks great... The dial and battery option would be different than what the Zoom can offer, better actually. With the Zoom you have to scroll with buttons, and no battery option. You can feed other instruments through the Zoom, thus saving a track while recording, but maybe the Boss can do this too?

Thanks for the opinions, guys, much appreciated. Bill, I'll check out the Zoom unit. Not sure about the answer you asked in your last post.

I re-checked the Boss out...

I couldn't find out if you can pass through it, but I imagine anyone selling it should know. I'm using a microkorg and the zoom and every so often this feature comes in handy. But even if it doesn't have it, the Boss may have other things that compensate. The Boss seems to have "fills" and other drum parts that I haven't found yet on the zoom. These could be very valuable so as to keep the drums from getting monotonous throughout an entire song...
