Boss Dr 202 Drum Machine won't record the bass notes

I’ve been using the Boss Dr Groove 202 for a few years and like it. After not using it for while, I have not been able to get the bass part to record along with the drum pattern. I used to do this and it worked fine. I can play and hear the bass notes but they won’t record into the pattern. Am I forgetting /missing something?
