Hi I'm new here.

I'm a solo guitarist and would like to record my music onto CD and upload it onto the net.

I have acquired a Boss BR900CD recorder and have learned to do just about everything I need to on it. I'm having difficulty bouncing the effects (and the detail of the mastering settings) and also I'm losing these effects when I record to the CD drive.

I've tried everything but it seems to drop the lot and this results in a very dry and basic sound. The only way I can get these effects onto CD is by bouncing directly from the track I have armed at the time.

I don't think this is the way the machine is designed to work and imagine that this method could be quite limited.

Any suggestions as to what could be causing this to happen and how to stop it ?

Regards

Not a clue, but I got suckered as 'engineer' with the band I'm playing with (who didn't want to track individually in my home studio) and we are tracking live (major rhythm sections, anyway) on a BR1600. So if you figure it out first, post it up. If not, within a few weeks I'm going to have to learn how to do it on this little Boss machine and I'll share what I find.

Boss BR900 CD

Thanks, Seeker of Rock.

I don't intend to do rhythm tracks for a while but have had a fiddle around. Live drums you say ? The 900 will only record two tracks at a time so a fully miked up kit is out of the question.

I have noticed that some of the mic settings are named 'snare', 'tom tom' and other parts of the drum kit so I suppose that the unit must be set up for recording such things live. All of those settings can be tailored in parameters such as EQ, mic distances, delay etc.

These work really well on the armed tracks but seem to get lost on bouncing/mastering/recording.

To record the built-in rhythm unit you need to be in bounce mode.

There is a tuition video for the 900 so perhaps there is the same for yours too.

We're using all 8 BR1600 xlrs for the instruments/vox, but having to use a submixer for the 7 drum mics and then sending it L/R to chs. 1 and 2 on the Boss. So far, I've just keep the Turbostart sheet handy and go from there. Except I had to consult the manual to clear the hard drive since it was full when we bought it.

I used to have this machine before I upgraded to the BR-1200, but it's basically the same machine only with more tracks. I can make a video with step by step instructions and upload it here if you'd like.

Solution found.

'Bounce' mode and press play and record to fix loop effects to the stereo channel.

'Bounce' mode and press play and record to fix mastering functions to next V track which is the one which is used for writing to CD.

Thanks for everyone's help.

This thread is 2 years old, but basically, you need to set the recorder to 'bounce' mode, then you 'mix' the channels to the stereo target track. It's all in the manual. Here's the manual, if you dont' have one. See page 58.
