Any use one of these? Or do you get a rough idea and then port it to your computer?

Depending on what you are trying to record and what you are trying to accomplish with the computer, make your decision- do it all on the computer, or use a stand-alone recorder like the BR series.

I agree with that. My problem is I have used a computer before and the learning curve is sometimes more than I can handle - maybe I'm just lazy.

The BOSS BR series makes multi-track recording very easy, so that may be your best choice. Just use the computer to dupe CDs!

I have a BR-600 & BR-1600, plus Reaper with a Edirol UA-4FX, the BR recorders are easier. With the BR-900, it has a CD burner built-in, no computer needed for mixdown.

If you want to save money, get the BR-600. It's great for quick song ideas recording. I used the BR-600 for writing songs, my band is recording our next CD with BR-1600.

You can hear a surf rock song I recorded with my BR-600 here http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6818279.

I use the BOSS BR1600 CDR to track, edit, mix and master. I then transfer the wav file to the computer to create a song list folder and use the Windows or Nero program to burn the CD's.
The BOSS unit is painfully slow compared to the computer when it comes to burning CD's.

I use a BR-900CD to record tracks and then do the mixing with software. For me, it's easier to be able to "see" the tracks on a monitor when doing any edits, punch-ins and mixing, etc. ;)
