Boss BR-800 frustration

I know Im missing something stupid. Im trying to do a simple mono single track recording to test out levels to record my guitar amp and Im getting odd results. Im using a Sure 57 in front of the amp into track one. I set peak to just clip on the heavy notes. I set record levels just below 0. I record. It sounds pretty good but when the bass notes come in, the volume dips like its being compressed or something. Its very noticeable through my studio monitors and headphones. What am I missing?

Make sure the effects are off.

Can you post a clip of the audio so we can hear the issue?
 
Wish14...it was the effects! Turned them off and it worked great! Thanks for the help1
