Jiffy,
I expect that this response will draw some flames. I just know I'll cry all night.
A lot of these guys either have either (A) no kids, or (B), no food for the kids, because they can spec the most
expensive equipment without a moments reflection as to whether or not you can afford it.
There are some things that I believe you should splurge on, and which things those are depend on what you are trying to do. You decide where you want to toss your money.
I like the specs on the BR-532. It is the box that I am going to trade up to ASAP. Maybe a year from now I will looking at one of the Akai or Korg units, but right now I'll count my blessings to lay my hands on the BR-532.
Yes, it uses data compression. Will that corrupt your efforts to such a degree that you want to toss them out? Who knows? You decide. I only need four tracks right now, I like the effects that Roland tossed in, and I like the fact that I can slap a 128MB of storage into the thing. I can live with the data compression.
If you do not need eight tracks, go with
the BR-532. It uses later technology, is less expensive, packs a lot of goodies into a small box, and will most likely trade for a good price on e-bay. Get into the Akai after you catch up on the mortgage.
