I'm thinking of getting a portastudio for home songwriting use, and at first was going to get a cassette-based format, but the prices of digital multitrackers are dropping so fast...

Anyone own a Boss BR-8? Musician's Friend is offering them for $699. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

BTW: If this is the wrong forum to post this in, please forgive me, I'm new to this site. Thanks!

Hey Jay
I just got my BR-8 today!!!!
I dont know much about yet but I love it already. It so easy to use,and it sounds so great. It has a shit load of effects that sound great, insert and loop.records in stereo and no track routing. On board drum machine(it's not bad)the vocal effects sound great!!!!
Theres alot more to this unit than I thought.I think Iam gonna like it.

If ya got any ????'s about the unit I'd be glad to answer them for you if I can.

I got a BR8 'bout two weeks ago. It's great. The internal drum is cheezy, but it does allow one to quickly have a beat and scratch track with no setup time. I literally was recording about 3 minutes after I got it out of the box.

You can hear a hint of the compression it uses to fit it all on a ZIP disk, but it's not that obnoixious.

Overall, so far, I really like it. The COSM modeling is really good for clean tones, but it pretty much blows for dirty tones.
