i have a crate tube half stack with a fender tele with hot rail pickups in it.
i know i could buy a better amp, but i like how it sounds.
is their anything anyone reccomends i should buy? i have about 400 dollars.

How about a guitar with humbuckers to compelment the twangy tele (assuming you have a tele with single coils)?

Since you like the sound of your amp setup....

  • New Pickups
  • Retube the Amp
  • Multi-effect pedal
  • Different String guage and guitar setup
  • Different cap values in Guitar
  • Rewire pickup switch configuration

the hot rail is a single pickup and i have a stock pickup on it, it sounds damng good so im not worried about that.
but would re tubing the amp make that much of a difference?
and what type of effect would you reccomend?
i think im gonna go get an octave shifter thing.

The retube is just a suggestion. Any noticeable difference will depend on how long you've had the current set installed and how much use they've gotten. If you're gigging a lot and running the thing 4 or 5 times a week for several hours then you just might enjoy some new tubes. You can also change out some of the preamp tubes to different values to give yourself either more gain or more clean headroom. That all depends on what you're looking for. I would suggest doing some research on the web or taking it to a good amp tech and have him make some suggestions. Once you know what will work in your amp you can always pickup a set of new tubes on the web somewhere.

but if you really are 'bored' with your setup, then its time for some books on scales or anything else technical.

The Guitar Grimoire - Scales and Modes, is a FANTASTIC book.

If your setup ain't broke, then don't fix it. Get better.

hmmm....you just want somebody to throw out stomp box recomendations with no ideas of what you're trying to do with them?

well...

okay.

I have alot of fun with my Boss Super Shifter doing harmonized leads with myself. I also enjoy my MXR EVH phase 90. I also enjoy my MXR Wylde overdrive.....I know, I know....too many signature pedals.
I also enjoy having extremely nice instrument cables and straps, an extremely nice speaker cable to my cab, etc, etc... Sometimes things like that are just the ticket when I have some money to blow!

However, if we knew exactly what you wanted to do with it, I'm sure we could all make better suggestions.
