Hi its me again.

I got a new power supply and have power to the monitor and the computer stops booting part way through.

I got the proper CPU recognition.
Got the right memory recognition.
Shows I have Award BIOS ver 1.0A

then it stops there.

I dont seem to be getting any power to the drives.

I can enter BIOS by holding DEL down before I turn the computer on but once it get to the "freeze point", I cant do anything but shut it off.

Could someone donate a brain???

Thanks
-mike

Hi there. In cases of hardware probs. If the system worked before previous fault I always ask what has changed?

1) The power supply? so the new one may be faulty. (test this with another mobo to check)

2) The bios may need resetting to default again.

3) Maybe the old power supply took another component along with it when it went to it's power-supply in the sky place. (ie power surge could have taken out mobo, memory, or even one of the cards on mobo)

Unplug ribbons from CD's Hard Drives, Floppy. Run the machine with just Video Card, RAM and processor. See if it will boot any further, at least to a boot disk failure message. If it gets further, try plugging drives in, one at a time.

If you think your power supply isn't getting power to some components, you could use a multimeter to check the voltage of the plugs and see if they're producing power. Also, search for troubleshooting sites on the internet.

Emeric's got it. Try running extra lean for a bit and see what happens. Literally unplug everything except the CPU, memory, and video card (and all fans of course) and see if the machine POSTs. Then start plugging things in one at a time, seeing if the machine will POST each time.

I have an Asus A7V133 machine here and if we have a certain USB scanner plugged in, the machine will NOT get past the memory check. Unplug the scanner until the memory check is over, and all is well. Weird ed?

thanks guys

As soon as I get home from work I will try what you suggested.

See if I can narrow it down.
