I have recorded rock in the past but I am now venturing into beat making for a few friends of mine that rap. I was wondering how the different bass noises are achieved. I am talking when you ride in a car w/ some 10s and 12s and there are the beats and then there is the part of the beat that is the really low bass beats that thump the car. I hope I am making sense! What I am getting at is that I already have the song made w/ fruity loops, I am just missing the low bass drum beats that you feel and the kick drum beats that thump hard. A good example of what I am talking about is Lean w/ it Rock w/ it and What you KNow about That (I know most rap songs have the thumps but this is what I think of off hand that sound real good and low when played in a car w/ a system)

Use a 808 boom for the "thump", use a sine wav for a sub bass (or just use a preset sub bass patch). That's what's used in most southern hip-hop.

Listen to the A Tribe Called Quest album The Low End Theory and you'll get a good understanding of how to implement the low end theory.

Any other ideas?- this thread could potentially make a good sticky
