Books for learning this stuff?

Hey all, what are some good books out there that will help me learn about the aspects of home recording.

You know, like proper way to mic, use of compression, etc..... just good general stuff but I would like the book to be fairly in-depth but not have a whole lot of "tech-babble" in it.

Or even some websites too...free is always good!

I have The Billboard Guide To Home Recording, by Ray Baragary and Modern Recording Techniques, by Huber & Runstein. I heard a good one on one of the forums about a book called Behind The Glass, but I can't remember the author (I tried a search for it but nothing came up, I might have seen it on another forum site). Maby someone will know the book I'm talking about. If I find it I'll post the link to the site. Also, put in a subscription to some home recording magazines, like Home Recording Magazine and/or Recording EQ Magazine, these are all filled with tons of great info.

Well that "modern recording techniques" looks pretty interesting, but there is a new edition coming out in May so I think I will hold off on that.

How about other books or websites? I would really like to learn about compression techniques, how to properly use reverb, etc.....like I said before, the general stuff.

I bought a book today called Digital Home Recording or something like that, but it is pretty lame.
 
good idea to hold off 'till the new edition. That's the "bible"
 
...I almost forgot, try doing a search and typing in Compression or reverb and then sonusman or shailat in the "search by user name" box, you'll find lots of great stuff that way. Check out "I will finally reveal some secrets about mixing" by sonusman (type in compression in the search), lots of stuff there.:)
 
Hot Tips for the Home Recording Studio by Hank Linderman has a lot of information - not only on recording, but music and singers and working with groups and stuff. I like that one a lot. Also there's another book...pretty thin - not real heavy reading, but it's very helpful and very witty. For some stupid reason I can't remember the title, but it has a subtitle, "...Or how to be a sound engineer without really trying"
