Better Than You
I'm getting 2 different stories on which Boogie cab is best with the Rectifier. Is the Oversized 4x12 better than the standard sized 4x12?

The oversized on has more low end. Better is a matter of opinion.

i have an oversized cab and it sounds great. it gets awesome bass response. full bass without being sloppy.

i used to have two marshall 4x12 cabs, the mesa oversize cab is louder, tighter and fuller than the marshall cab was. the marshall cabs seem to resonate and vibrate more. they feel loose and midrangey. the mesa cab just sounds solid. you can still get a midrange tone out of the mesa cab, it just isnt inherently midrangey like the marshall cab was.

during christmas i was at home and set up my rig. as i was playing my dad comes in and tells me "man, that thing sounds GOOD." he plays in 60s cover bands and a neil young cover band these days, he said it sounded "nice and fat"

all the reviews (ok alot!)of cabs on harmony central - complain about the build quality of marshall cabs - and alot of ppl have said that running any decent head through a mesa cab will greatly improve your sound.....

I think this is definitely right - even if not the oversized the sound is so much tighter and thicker and fuller generally (if that even makes sense!) but even though there pricey i think i'd always go for a mesa cab even if i was playing a marshall head.

It's apples and oranges. You can't really compare them that way. I've owned marshall and mesa cabs at the same time, and they both work well, depending on the style you're going for and amp involved. For heavy, chugga chugga music, the Mesa will work better, as it is bassier and has a naturally "scooped" sound. Mesa cabs also work better with their own amps. I think they sound very strange with Marshall's and more "british" influenced amps. For instance, the scooped nature of the cab really cut away a lot of the natural harmonic (read: midrange) cut and sweetness of a 69' plexi I used to have.

i dunno... the mesa setup i have has quite a bit of midrange. you cant get quite the "squawk" sound you would get from a marshall, but, yeah, apples and oranges in some respects.

if you want a vintage tone, the marshall cabs are the way to go it seems. but mesa cabs are for far more than "chugga chugga" music

Well, it's much more complex than just being "scooped" or not, I really believe companies build their cabs to actually go with their amps.
However, the mesa recto cab definitely has more of a scooped sound than other cabs I have owned/own, including Marshall, Bogner, Fender, and Orange.

....and to reply to the original post, and go against everything I've just said, I've heard of a lot of rectifier owners using Orange cabs. :p
