sounds nice. singing is good. I'd add a touch of presence to the vocals and a bump of volume.
:)

i would look into possibly compressing the bass just a tad more.......sounds a little too much at points.........i didn't hear the first version of this, but it sounds good........

A touch of hissyness in the intro... wow... she's got some voice, eh? Is that you? Just assumed you were a guy, if so ;)

Something that's probably frustrating you: sounds like the song is taking place inside king kong's mouth  (muffled highs)... :(

Best advice for that is to actually get some brite tracks (better OH's for cymbals) and use some condenser mics for 1)vox and 2) acoustics...

Yeah, bass is a little wide and "brown" (if that makes sense)... and certain notes (the higher ones) BOOM right outta there... it's probably stacking on top of the other tracks right around 150Hz and just going BOOOOM! Advice is to roll off lows on almost all other trax, except bass & kick... below 150... that COULD help (could also be you just have one BOOMY string on that bass :o )

Now, this is just from M.M. speakers... no monitors yet... but IMO if you'd like a better quality mix... borrow some mc012's for the acoustic, a nice LD condenser mic for vox, and retrack the drums (with the mc012's as OHs) so you get that snap on the snare drum, and the crispness of the cymbals...

If you don't have enough trax to do this, forget everything I've said

BTW you stopped drinking coffee, and decided to BUG OUT YOUR eyes instead?? ;)

Chad

BTW it has a very "Indigo Girls" sound to it. Nice song.

Chad

Hey Chad.......
Guitar and vox were done with AKG condensors in Worcester Mass......
Drums, keys and congas were done in New Orleans by my buddy.........all high end mics through analog and onto tape and then converted to digital in his studio.......we always lose a bit with file conversion through e-mail as well.......
then, I layered the bass on top at home through my POD Line 6 set at By-pass Line6 clean.........Powderfinger.......I probably should tone the bass down a bit...I think you are right...

Chad,
I am gonna get all of the first generation tracks via snail mail and re-mix this one.......thanks for the advice.....I printed it out for future reference......I think it's worth the effort.......
that is a whole other project though.....

Glad you dug the tune though .........the singer is a gal named Ulli.........she has got a hell of a set of pipes.......she co-wrote the lyrics with me as well........small animals (and most people) flee in terror at the sound of my singing voice.....I just write em' and record em'.........I can't sing em'......
later,
Joe

Oh yeah ... the congas really add to this (I love percussion) ... I think I remember listening to this before.

It has a great feel to it...nice groove...Very good vocals. There were a few places where the bass sounded a little bit hot, but that just may be on my end.

Nice work on this! :)

hey joro, the song is really good, but that bass is just too over powering.. compress the piss out of it and drop some lows, add some highs.. the song also has a lack of crispness, but the tune comes through it.. It could sound a lot better though.. Great voice and I like the congas.. I can't think of what it reminded me of, but it was all good.. :)

fix that bass sound, and that will be an immediate improvement..

Thanks guys.........

I am gonna try some EQ and if all else fails........
re-record the bass.....

at least.......until I get the hi-res .WAVs from New Orleans........

Thanks again,
Joe
