When I record audio through my sound card (from something already playing), the playback sounds kinda "blurry". For example, cymbals don't sound as crisp and clear as the original audio. Has anybody run into this problem before with recording thru their sound card, and what kinds of software filters could I use to rememdy the problem? I am currently using an inbuilt graphical equalizer to clear up the audio, but it still doesn't sound exactly like the original. Any tips?

Tell us a little about your setup - What kind of soundcard, what's the source of input from, etc.

You could just be bumping up against the quality (or lack thereof) of the converters (analog-to-digital) in your soundcard. What sample rate are you using (44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, etc.) and at what bit-depth?

first things first...we need to know the full setup. mics, mixer, soundcard, software...
