anyone usin it.. thinking of getting it for hiphop vocals. Some rappers use it,(outkast, Cee-Lo)

i've got one. i love it. it's got nice complex high end.

i'd probaby try a fet 47 inspired mic for rapping such as an audio-technica at4047.

Ive got one on trial. Using it for voice/acoustic guit and am impressed with its depth and Oz is right about the high end. I'm comparing it to my 4050 and it's just thicker tone to me. Hope this helps you a bit. Can't suggest anything for hiphop, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Oz, what does the fet47 have to offer in sound quality/texture? I know little about it.

I have the standard version of the Dragonfly and I have a RODE NTK. I was not aware of much difference between them until I recorded vocals at 96K and HDSP buffer of 64 (RME Multiface and Samplitude Pro). At this samplerate, the Dragonfly stood apart as being more life like. I think mic test should be done using a Motu 192 interface. At this samplerate, the best mics will stand apart due to the smoothness of the sampling.

It's somewhat of a picky vocal mic.

I've never really known it to sound particularly bad on anthing. Although I wouldn't layer a buch of background vocals with it. That's really not it's forte. And it's not a rocker's mic, either. I don't think I'd want to put it in front of a screamer of any sort.

On the right voice, it can really sound like magic. On a clean guitar amp it always sounds like magic.

People who would sound good with one: Think softer, mellower type crooners. Someone who sings mostly airy and breathy stuff. It has a noticeable scoop to it in the midrange that makes it really well-suited to people who sing too midrangy, grainy, or nasal. Great for pop music and especially R&B, because it's a pretty slick, produced-sounding mic -- as most BLUE's tend to be.

Ya, I'm tryin to scrape up the $ right now to get one, cause it sounds sooo good on acoustic. Using the BabyBottle/KM184 combo on it now.

Chess, you say it wouldn't work on alot of background vox cause the low end hype and thickness would end up muddy?

Actually, the high end builds up and winds up sounding shrill on esses and consonants . . . as several tracks are piled on, that is.

Like Oz mentioned, it's got a complex high end. :D
