Winner chicken dinner!
My friend has a pair of BX8a's with blown tweeters that he said he'd sell to me for......30 bucks! My questions is, how much are tweeters generally and is it something I could replace by myself or would i have to have a shop do it?

M is for Monitors

damn...cool $30.... happy birthday..

hell yeah, you can probably buy a direct replacement or get creative and slap some Westlake tweeters in there! :)

you could buy those and flip them on ebay for a profit pretty easy. just let everyone know the tweets need replacing. the bx series of monitors are known for blowing tweets.

do the bx8's tweeters really blow that easily?? i'm looking at getting those...

are they powered speakers? are you sure it is not .....

the tweeter amps that are blown? if it is the amps, forget it.

for raw tweeters try www.partsexpress.com

your monitor mix would need to go thru an amplifier....

ANY WAY TO TELL THE DIF?

on its way to the speakers, otherwise just go direct to the back of the speakers, and the speakers might have heat sinks on the back, and would definitly nead a source of power (like wall power).

or you could have meant: the tweeters or the amp? take the tweeters out and hook them up to another source or hook another tweeter (or whole speaker, actually) up to the amp output.

with 370 some posts you probably meant the latter, come to think of it.
this was also covered in another post and somebody had a pretty good way to check. i think 'tweeter' was one word in the title of the post.

or you could take it to someplace that installs car audio and say you will give 10 bucks for a quick check out.

I had a pair for quite some time that were well abused. If you're roasting them with overly compressed and distorted signal, they'll blow (just like most budget tweeters). But if you're running good signal to them, you shouldn't have a problem. I never did.

Yeah I meant tell if it's the tweeters or the amp. I don't want to buy them if theres no easy way to tell if its the amp or the tweeter.
