blips in recording

Hello all! I had a few questions about my recording setup. I recorded a few new songs (just demo takes) and it appears that while I playback the recording, I hear these digitalized "blips" every once in awhile throughout the file. Is there any definite source of this? I use the following equiptment.

ART Tube MP Project Series
M-Audio Fast Track USB Audio Interface

My computer is an HP DV8240us notebook. I have a 2.2 GHz AMD Turion 64 processor. USB 2.0 ports and 2 GB memory. I use Adobe Audition 2.0 to do my sound recordings (there are blips and other noises in all different programs also, not just this one. However they arent the same noises nor are they in the same places.)

Are you using any effects? Some effects (demos/shareware etc) will put in random blips until you purchase them. I doubt that's it but try it without any effects running and see if it still happens.

After that, my next guess would be the CPU. Looks like you have a pretty good CPU. With a lot of tracks and a lot of effects on them, skipping/pops/clicks can happen.

Another possible suspect is what sample rate you're recording at (ie: 44100). Higher sample rates can really drain CPU power.
 
Nope no effects.. nothing at all. I've think for this song that I uploaded I had maybe 2 tracks? Guitar and a Vocal.

You will notice about 30-40 seconds in the song it starts. I record with 44100 and mono (I can not get it to record stereo for some reason).

Hm, around 45 seconds or so I hear some noise/skipping sounds. Hard to tell what it is exactly. I've had a bad mic cable before that did just that, so try and rule that out.

Another thing is what else you have running while you're recording. Any other programs? Anti-virus? Firewall? Check the system tray at the bottom right corner of the screen and close all other programs.
 
I've started to close absolutely everything (explorer.exe itself) plus all those other little programs. Not anti-virus or firewall running at the time of recording. I hope it isn't the mic cable because the store's around here rip you off really bad. $20 bucks for a 5ft. XLR cable... and they are all no-name brands. I will try turning the sampling rate down and closing off everything all together (except audition) and see how it goes. I'll post back a link later today of the song and hopefully things are sounding better. But I can usually here those skipping sounds while I record (through the headphones).

Don't record any lower than 44100 sample rate.

Also, you don't need to (and shouldn't) close windows explorer (explorer.exe).

Edit: I notice you're using USB 2.0. USB devices can sometimes cause latency/skipping, but for a single track it shouldn't.

Also, Audition doesn't support ASIO drivers, which is what you should be using. I'd at least try WDM Kernel Streaming in the device settings.
