I worked a job at a local studio in town here a couple a weeks ago, and used a pair for OHD's.

Loved em!

Went to go buy a set, and found out they dont make em anymore  .

Is there a mod or capsule i can do to reincarnate these mics?

Or am i doomed to Evil Bay here?

Thanks.

Are you sure they KM84's? I've never seen black KM84's only black KM184's. Those are still in production.

Well, not to be a pain in the ass, but, they do list a pair of KM-184's as well. I am interested to know the outcome on this. I don't know if calling Neumann would be any help, but maybe. You might try locating Karl Winkler, I've seen him post on rec.audio.pro a bit. He used to me with Neumann, he might have an idea.

Nice, that should get to the bottom of it. Mind if I tag along?

Be my guest.
These mics are quite worth having if i can just figure out how to make them.

They are Klaus Heyne modified. That really can only be replicated by one man.

On gearslutz there is a pair of KM85i's which are very much like the KM84's. You could buy those and send them off to be modified, but you are likely looking at a couple grand $$$.

How about the Josephson c42's? They are suppsosed to be awesome for a matched pair costing only $950.

So i go a reply from Klaus.
They indeed dont make them anymore, and of course he recommended that i only use a "reputable dealer".

Any know of a reputable dealer in thier area that might have these gems?
