If I want 24 bit wavs at 96k where do I set this in Adobe Audition? I am working with another guitarist who is using Cubase so I need to keep the files the same bit and sample rate to export into his software. I know this can't be that hard but I am not seeing the solution right off.

When you open Adobe Audition/Cool Edit Pro, go to Multitrack View/File/New Session. A box will come up where you can set the sample rate and bit depth. It will not have a 24-bit option: use 32-bit. It's OK, and has been explained several thousand times here. As the previous poster said, your sound card and other parts of the digital chain must support 96KHz sampling. Good luck.

Thanks for the info guys, I think I knew that but couldn't find the setting because I already had the particular session open. So if he tracked at 96k and I did my tracks at 44 is this going to present a problem? I probably should have looked into this before I tracked 2 days worth of material. Thanks in advance.

Not really. If you want to continue in 96k, then first convert all your 44.1k recordings to 96k using the "convert sample type" option. Use the resulting files from that point. It will take some time.
