i'm trying to figure out what i shall do for this upcoming birthday, as far as the green goes. the two options i'm weighing out are the following:

1. Continue mixing with my various stereos and speakers (aiwa bookshelf cd player, yamaha computer speakers and sub, sansui receiver with pioneer 911 speakers, and a pair of no-name outdoor speakers mounted on my desk), and buy some cables, tracking headphones, headphone amp, and some weights for my frankenstands.

2. Save towards new monitors... I've been looking at the KRK RP8's (over twice my limit) and Wharfdales (somewhere near my limited funds of $200).

I was thinking about going with option one for now, finally getting the basic skeleton for my home studio set up and flowing nicely. i have two separate rooms, and my lack of the above items is really proving to be a pain for tracking. the amount of money i'll have will most likely give me half of what i need for monitors, and i really wanted to do room treatment along with that purchase. it seems like i've answered my own question, but figured i'd get some of you guys to throw in your opinions. smooth workflow and a long mixing process until i save up for my monitoring chain... or 'ghetto' rigging everything with an easier mixing process?

thanks in advance,

its really your call. I would go with option number one, because you can record easier first, but you can save up later and go back and mix later.
