so im running a pentium 4 socket 775 3.4 ghz processor. my cpu temp in the bios is reading anywhere between 45 - 65C. but the windows probe program provided with my motherboard is reading about 10 degrees cooler. first off are these normal temps for this chip? and which temp should i trust?

a zalman cpu fan all copper, really nice fan. plus 3 case fans

That does seem a bit hot.

Is it overclocked? Did you install the chip yourself? If so, did you use a heatsink paste?

I wouldn't know which of the temps would be more accurate. Are you getting any temp warnings in your bios, and do you have it set to turn off or signal an audible warning when it gets above a certain parameter?

no its not overclocked, of course i used thermal interface material, no i dont get warnings, yes i have it set to turn off. i really just wanted to know which temp to trust, the bios or the monitor
