I thought the same thing myself. Ah, but several years down the road. :o

So, Bob, are you interested in doing some more takes for my albuquerque song? Umm, with the new mic??? :D

Absolutely--I'm like a kid in a candy shop with my acoustic and this mic. You want some more takes?

Yes, but this isn't about you.

:D

Not sure where it's "about me"....?
I commented positvely on his mic purchase and his playing ability, and simply stated why I'm not much of an acoustic player.

Never mind....you wanna stir up something, enjoy.

I would love it. Especially part that was originally for the violin. do you need links or files?

Nope, I've still got 'em. I have another go (or 2 or 7) and get back to you.

Not paranoid about anything....just don't get what you're trying to "LOL" about here.

I was being courteous to WhiteStart, and my addition of a personal comment was meant to extend more props to him for his own guitar playing ability.
Really, if it was "about me"...what was I going to gain by saying I basically sucked on acoustic guitar....? :D

I put a :D at the end of my last sentance just like you did.....doesn't that mean I have a great sense of humor? :)

While I'm not a crazy fan of the C414 for some things....acoustic guitar is certainly one thing it captures well almost effortlessly, and probably the only reason I've considered getting one just to have in the locker.

I'm not a crazy fan of a lot of mics for a lot of things. And you're right--it excels at acoustic guitar. But here's the thing: I expect my $100 SM57 to do lots of things. And it does: all kinds of amps, snares, bongos, even the occasional bass amp. So there's no way I'd buy a $1000 mic if I thought it would only do one thing well. (And that's not a swipe at your comment--lots of folks have said that about the 414 vis a vis acoustic guitar.)

I bought it because I wanted a lot: it's very quiet, lots of patterns, roll-off options, and it's pure and natural compared to the cheap hyped Chinese condensers I cut my teeth on. (Side note: there are two current 414s. The XLS is the traditional sound, but the XLII is actually hyped a bit on the high end--s'posed to give some presence to lead tracks. I got that one, and it sounds just straight and true to me!)

Anyway, just for kicks, I knocked out a trite little progression tonight. Everything in the track was captured with the 414 through the same preamp. Kinda interesting (at least to me).

The track is a little quiet. I didn't want to molest it much. And there's no EQ anywhere. Not that EQ is bad, but in this instance I really wanted to see how well the mic captured different sources, and how well those tracks played together.

It's always a good mic to have in your locker....I wasn't knocking it as a one-trick-pony or anything, just saying that acoustic guitars love that mic.
For vocals and other stuff it's like a lot of other mics...you have to try it and see how it works for you on a given source. It is more of a "vanilla" kind of mic, which many folks prefer.
My personal experience might have been with the model that had the extra high-end peak, so the few times I used it (long time ago) it wasn't the right choice and came off too bright for my needs at the time.
That said...I've come close to picking one up many times, and even considered a stereo pair for OH, room mics...and of course, acoustic guitars.
I'm sure you'll never go back to your other mics for that purpose....they just can't compete.

By the way....the second track you put up sounds great. It's really working for you.
