Taste of home
I don't really know so much about vsts and midi, but I'm looking for a vsti that will simulate a bell - a Big Ben kind of bell - not sleigh bells.

I'm using Lazy snake at the moment, but his bells sounds like sleigh bells. I can't get the sound big or deep enough, if that makes sense. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, it's quite likely. Perhaps if you think I ought to be able to get it sounding like Big Ben via Lazy Snake you might feel inclined to help me with this.

Thanks a lot in advance. :)

Maybe Google for bell samples rather than looking for a vsti. Do you need to be able to 'play' the bell sound at different pitches?

Hey Jonny, thanks for replying. Yeh I do need it at different pitches. I thought of creating samples but actually that would take me ages. Maybe it's a good process for me to get on with though. I only need 6 notes or something. Might be fun.

If you're willing to do your own sampling, there are lots of good bell sounds on THE FREESOUND PROJECT. You'll have to join but it is free as the name implies. A search on things like Carillon, Clock Towers or even Big Ben will likely get you the sort of thing you need.

FYI, The Freesound Project is one of my go to sites when I need any form of sound effect. You'll even find a few of mine up there if you search hard enough for obscure stuff.

Hey sorry I didn't forget about this post. Was just figuring out what to do, and what I needed for the song. Probably should have thought that over a bit before asking. :) I think I can cover it with a sound file now. I was getting a bit carried away thinking the bell had to be on the beat, but actually where it's going in the song, it's not going to matter so much.

Really appreciate the advice from you. And I'm definitely keen to give sampling a go. Not sure I'm quite ready for it now anyway, my Reaper skills are still pretty bad. I did have a look at 'shortcircuit' for a couple of hours, but because my general recording knowledge is so poor, my progress was really slow. I'm definitely going to come back to it though, so thanks heaps for the tips in advance.

You know you can just import the sound file into Reaper and put it wherever you like in the time line, don't you? On the beat, off the beat... wherever... and yeah, lazy snake... I've used it but I never found a decent bell sound when I was trying it out.
