I have just come across and old Beyer microphone that a friend bought from me about 25 years ago (and I got it used then) and was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about it. It is a Beyer M320, a big ugly rectangular thing. It requires a special connector on the cord which is lost. It has a switch on the front that says AUS, SPRACHE, and MUSIK.

I believe that's a ribbon mic. The switchs are bass roll off (speech/music) I believe.

let me see: the connection is probably 3 pin DIN. you just need to make a custom cord, or you could buy an adapter... fairly common. or at least common enough to find.

the switch is probably a low cut switch. although generally you see them as just music and speech... not sure what those mean when you figure in the "off" position. usually speech means low cut on and music means off... so perhaps off means that the mic is totally turned off, and music means no low cut, and speech means low cut activated. anyway... no point in guessing, you will find out when you get it running.

i have never heard of the m320, but a lot of people on RAP say it is a ribbon mic... although some people on RAP believe that the m380 is a ribbon mic (and they are wrong about that).

write to beyerdynamic, they have done research for me before regarding an old mic of theirs that they dont list on the site. they are pretty good about helping out... although it took them a week or so and a few emails.

if you are bothered by the mic in any form, please sell it to me! i love old beyers!
