Better or Worse Than Oxygen 8?

Okay I know this is closer to a toy than "Pro Audio" BUT I need something to trigger drums into Fruity Loops and write drum parts and ideas away from the PC. I was looking at the Midiman Oxygen 8 but the 25 keys and some reviews have me looking for something else.

My PC is the "family" PC and shared/ fought for by my wife and I.

I am primarily a bass and guitar player, song writer and I like to mess around with keyboards and piano's. Mainly I want to record some home demo's that don't suck too bad. Burn some CD's for friends and pontential colaberators etc. I am not making any money at this or dreaming of going pro for a living.

If you a real key player you will laugh at this one but it just might meet my needs and GC has them at 54% off ($119).

It does general MIDI and has a built in sequencer, 10 drum kits BUT nothing I can find about it indicated the bit resolution of the samples. If I only use it for triggering FL it would not matter but most of the drums in FL are more of a hip hop techno thing and I want more of an organic sound so if the drum samples were usable that would be a huge bonus.

Does any one have any input on this? $100-$120 is my spending limit.

Well I went by GC and messed with it a little.

A few of the sounds were semi-decent coming through the built in speakers but a lot of them were pretty lame....

.....which brings up another question....how do you know what one of these keyboards with built in speakers is going to sound like for recording DI?

I am sure the built in speakers are not high dollar and could underestimate the potential sound quality going DI and using a preamp.

The other thing that bugs me is despite all kinds of technical info on the box and websites there is NO mention of the bit resolution of the samples - wich says to me they don't want you to know and is probaly less than 16 bit.

I all ready have a DR-5 that I may be able to program my drums and some keyboard parts to MIDI trigger FL so I don't know if this would really benefit me that much.

it'll prolly be okay if you refuse to spend any more... it'll have some strings and such... probably 16 bit samples... 32/44 khz...
for triggering midi and controller data, i'd recommend an evolution or midi tech midi controller though...

Thanks Chris,

I decided to wait a while.

It's not quite that I "refuse" to spend more it is that I truly don't have any more.

My annual budget (if you could call it that ) is less than $200 a year IF I save B-day money etc otherwise it is zero unless I sell something to get some thing else.
