Stand Up Comity
I used a RØDE NT3 to record britt in My World. The result was a bit harsh.

Any recommendations for a good value mic that would be smoother for her voice?

Well I don't know who Britt is and I haven't heard her voice so I can't fairly make any suggestions. However, Rode's NT3 is one of the harshest, brittle sounding mics I've encountered so your comment comes as no surprise..............honestly, I think almost any of the better known Chinese manufactured LD mics would be an improvement, obviously, some would be more suitable than others depending on the match up between Britt's voice and the individual mic's characteristics.

I do love you, that's why I sent you the perfect mic for YOUR voice. However, I don't love Britt at all, so I have no intention of buying her a U47 :p

The only vocal mic I am familiar with is the Rode NTK. I would recommend that one, if it is in your price range. Although you don't mention dynamic, they used to make an Electrovoice PL80 that was designed more for the female voice and had a sharp cut to the highs. It's long out of production though and I'm not sure what would be today's equivalent.

:D :) :D :)

I listened at Soundclick and think that I would use a SP T-3 for her vox. (And less 'verb imho) I might be wrong but that's where I would start. I don't have the U47  or I would use that. I MSH buys them in bulk he can get a good deal and give us all one. :D

Seriously, try a T3 at guitar center or somewhere and see how it sounds for her.

Nah, I got mine at Guitar Center, it was missing the power supply so I talked them down to $100, and they threw in a free Nady pop filter :p

Hey apl, why not support your neighbor state and buy a KSM32

You have been very kind to me.

That Shure's kinda pricey. The T3 might be OK, I could subsidize it by eBaying the RØDE.

Oh sure, and give up your PBR for Foster's, why don't you? Joke's on you, it's made in Canada! :p

More second city please.... And yeah get the T3, you will find many uses for it.

...neighbor state...

neighbor, adjective: being immediately adjoining or relatively near

state, noun: a politically organized body of people usually occupying a definite territory; especially : one that is sovereign

Thus, Canada's my neighbor state.

Exactly.

And I almost jumped in last night, but since I don't know what an NT3 is supposed to be like, I thought I should keep my yap shut this time.

BUT,

I was going to suggest something tubey. Either that or an sm7 or KSM44. Or possibly, a tube pre. Or some combination thereof

I've got a V67 that's supposed to be 'dark', (which I don't see, but not having any other LDCs to compare it to, what do I know) that you are perfectly welcome to try out. As soon as I get my sm7 (soon, I swear it), you can have a go with that, too. Also got a Brick tube pre you can borrow.
