I have a "sludge" type of metal band coming in on short notice today, and the members are veyr talented. These guys all know there shit SO i wanted to know... here's what they will be using, and what I have. What is the best way to mic the guitar cab?

They will be using a Peavey 6505 + ... mostly low/highs. the mids have ben turned to pretty much 0. The cab will be an avatar 4x12. It has 4 vintage 30s.

They have like 1/6th of the music in clean channel.

The mics i have are (multi-tracked keep in mind) sennheiser e609 and a sm 57. It will be recorded in my 4'x4'x7' vocal booth (3/4 filled with auralex and foam).

Whats the best way to set up the mics? Should I only use the 609? or both...

I prefer a 57 off axis about 2" from the center of the cone.

And turn the mids back up on the amp. That no mid sound is fine by itself but it will be horrible in the mix. Low is for bass, mids are for guitar.

1st of all, +1 to turning the mids back up, especially with a 6505/5150 - those amps live in the midrange

and with those mics, i would probably move the 57 around near the center of one of the speakers until i found a spot that sounded good, then stick the 609 on the grill farther near the edge - again moving it around until it sounds right

blend those bitches together, and you should be good to go
