my friend made 6 2x4 2inch panels covered wioth burlap. the intention was to hang them with velcro. however, he realized that the panels are to heavy and it stretches the material. what is the best way he can hang these panels with out ruining them? thanx for any help....

Are the panels framed, or just insulation covered in fabric? Mine are framed with pine boards and I am using picture wire and hooks. I just put a little loop on each side of the frame and attach the wire. My wall hooks are in the studs, so it is pretty secure.

For unframed panels, you might consider L-shaped shelf holders attached to the wall below the panel. Otherwise, you're going to probably have to bolt all the way through the panel into the wall.

the panels are not framed. im thinking hes going to have to bolt straight into the wall. ive heard every nail, bolt in the wall brings the quaility down????what king of screws would you suggest. thanx for the help......

get some standard tapping drywall screws, maybe take a piece of small diameter flexible PVC tubing, or something like the rubber piece on a cymbal stand, and put the screw into the wall, with the rubber being the only thing through the panel. maybe it will act like an aborber or something..

i don't think it will matter all that much..
. maybe take a cheap mic stand and center the boom, and staple a string on each side of the panel, and tie it on the mic stand, kinda like a gobo or something.

How about using some fender washers and some 4" anchor bolts. Or better yet modify Tragic remix's idea by cutting some bic pens into 2" peices put those through the mineral wool and slide the anchor bolt through those.

hmmm... I went to home depot and found something called hardboard that came in 2' x 4' sheets I sprayed 3m glue on them then layed 4" thick mineral on top of it then I wrapped them in burlap using a heavy duty staple gun. After that I bought some twine, screws, washers, and picture hanger hooks. About 1/4 of the way down on each side of the panel screw a screw with washer into the hard board about half way then wrap some string around each of them behind the washer then tighten the screw down all the way. Then mount a picture hanger into the wall and hang the panel just as if you where hanging a picture.

That method is OK if you're NOT planning on spacing the panels away from the wall for better LF absorption - but you don't want a solid back on panels usually because you WILL want to move them away from the wall a few inches (good rule of thumb is air space same as panel thickness) - if you have a solid BACK on them, there's no point in spacing them off the wall for better LF absorption because the PANEL becomes the new "boundary", and extra distance from the wall won't change anything.

For that reason, a frame (usually with some small, triangular gussets in rear corners) will work better... Steve

As i said before, do a search on impaling clips, they cost just a few cents and are available online and work fine with unframed panels. If you want to mount the panels away from the wall then screw or nail some blocking to the wall and attach the impaling clip to the blocking.

Yup, definitely the simplest way to do it... Steve
