Best way to convert from 48k to 44.1?

I've seen a lot of posts about the issues concerning resampling from 48k down to 44.1 for cd production. I just got a new soundcard, and I am coming across issues I haven't encountered before as far as sample and bit rates.

I have been doing most of my recording since I got the card at 48k. I have a Yamaha DG Stomp w/ SPDIF digital out, and its output is 48k, so it seems I should go ahead and record at that rate.

Anyway - issues of whether it is best to record at a higher bitrate or not aside - what is the best way to resample? I am currently using Wavelab to do my wave editing, but I haven't necessarily figured out the best way to convert.

Any advice or suggestions? Thanks. :)

SRC

I am not very sure how to do it in wavelab, but I think there is an option under save as... or export audio.
But going down to 44.1 should be the last step, before burning on CD. I use 44.1 because I use sometimes samples with that SR. I will go to my studio later on and take a look how to downsample in wavelab.

You asked for the "best" way. I'm not sure what the "best" way is...

however, to resample in Wavelab simply go to the File Menu and select Edit Audio Attributes. You'll get a window that allows you to change the settings for both the Bit Rate and Sample Rate.

Alternately, if you also use Wavelab to burn to CD, you may not have to change the sample settings at all. I record at 44.1, but at 24 bits. I bring the .wav files into Wavelab at those settings, do my editing, and burn to CD without ever manually changing the Bit Rate setting (I'm assuming Wavelab drops it to 16 bit during the burning process, but I never have to alter the file). I'm guessing you could do the same thing with the Sample Rate.

Wavelab Sample Rate Conversion

Don´t change the SR like that, your playback will be at the wrong speed!!! If you change the bitrate in this dialog, it will replace the old file.

You have two options to do this properly:
1.File/save special: you will get standard quality.
2.Effects/ SR Conversion. choose HQ

I apologize, I am not very sure about the menu names, because I don´t have an english version, but I think it will help. I would almost always use the HQ option.
