Best Way To Connect a Compressor

My rig is in the rudimentary stages. First, I acquired an older Audio Source 2 channel, 20-band graphic equalizer/spectrum analyzer. I have it connected as an outboard auxiliary effect that is sent and returned across all 10 channels of my mixer (pre/post faders). I'm limited to one, stereo RCA output on the EQ, so I feel boxed into minimal options. However, I am in the market for a new compressor. The EQ is aged & restricted, but still reliable. Can anyone suggest the best way to utilize a compressor or devise a new set-up encompassing both.

You can't hook an EQ up as an auxiliary send... I mean, I guess you can but you really shouldn't. It's going to cause all sorts of problems. Same with a compressor for the most part (except for very specific purposes). These are insert processes.
