Hi all, i am in the process of cleaning up that Soundcraft 32 that i got. Well...it is very dirty and it has 361 knobs/faders. Any recommendations to clean that, like putting them in some water/soap solution for a day or two or alcohol ? i'm sure someone has done this in the past. But rubbing them one by one will take some time... ideas welcome.

thanks,

Felipe

Warm soapy water and a toothbrush is how I do it. Some out them in the dishwasher but the results haven't met my satisfaction, so it's one at a time with the soapy toothbrush for me.

Or you could maybe try and ultrasonic cleaner. I heard you can get them fairly cheap. Just dump a bunch of the knobs in it with some
cleaning solution and let it do its work for a few hours.

I use this method too and generally let the knobs soak for a good 30 minutes first to loosen up the gunk, which is generally dead skin, natural palm oils, food particles and cigarette smoke! Yummy! :laughings:

Cheers! :)

One should not put their knob in anything/anyone that would dirty it in the first place!:laughings:

will try the soaking/toothbrush approach first and see how that goes. thanks everyone

And I also had success reversing yellowed plastic by soaking the affected parts in oxiclean for several days.

That's a good one! I've not heard that. I've only used the warm soapy water process, But...my wife is a dental assistant, and they have a ultrasonic...

ok, after cleaning 680 knobs and removing 608 bolts to clean the frame i was about to shoot myself. These knobs are covered in rubber, so the ultrasonic and soaking in soapy water didn't work, had to use a brush on each. Here's a video:
