whats the best all around bang for your buck vocal mic between $400-$600? Definitely no more than $600, but less than $400 too if there is anything worthwhile.

ADK Hamburg (just got one and I really like it for the price)
Studio Projects T3
Rode NTK (some folks like the K2, haven't tried it)
Audio Technica 4060

See the Microphone FAQ. There is an excellent comparison of mics/price/use.

...Kenny's got it right...and I own a K2...definately add that one to the top of the list!

Gosh, there are plenty of decent vocal mics in the $400 to $600 range. As you probably know, vocal mics are only half of the equation - the singer is the other half. Singers and mics will match up or they won't, even with very expensive mics.

Here's some thoughts on all arounders:

CAD VSM
ADK TC
SP T3
AKG 414 UBLS or TLII (used)
Some of the newer SE mics (haven't heard them, but getting good reviews)

There are many more.

I would personally go for a SM7, or possibly an EV RE-20. But this is obviously a subjective question.

SM7 $300ish

EV RE-15 $100 or less used

MXL V69ME- $300ish- colored, darker non hyped upper mids, prefer it to T3 (sold mine)

ADK TL- $500ish- transparent, non hyped AKG type of sound but not quite as bright

These work well for me for cheap.

If you haven't check out this Sweet Puppy, I would recommend doing so. It is the best sounding vocal mic out there I think and its got character. Seriously, the range this mic has is astounding and the quality is just insane.

audio technica 4050 or a 4047 depending on taste.

I'd agree on the AT4047. I don't have enough AT4050 experience to give it a recommendation.
