I'm looking for a small usb microphone to record my professors lectures at university for personal use while studying, ive tried my laptops built in mic and its barely audible. I dont know anything about different types of microphones and am not sure which type is meant for recording audio in this situation, i usually sit front row so the distance is only a matter of meters and the professors all have microphones going throuh large speakers, usually on the ceiling. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.

Most of the mics on your shortlist are designed for close up studio work...picture a vocalist only a foot or so from the mic. Sound follows the "inverse square law" which means that doubling the distance results in a quarter the volume--for that reason even your "few meters" might be and issue.

What you really need is a "short shotgun" (super cardioid) mic like they use on video shoots. I've had a look and can't find any usb shotgun mics...perhaps a hole in the market!

Anyway, as an alternative, how about one of THESE using one of THESE to interface the 3.5mm to USB. Not elegant but it should work.

thank you very much ill look into the shotgun mics and see if i can find anything, i really appreciate it
