Whats The Best Card For Someone On A Budget ....i Am Wanting To Upgrade To At Least 4 Inputs , I Am Currently Using A Stock 2 Input Soundcard ....soundmax I Beleive It Is And Want More Inputs In Order To Better Record Drums And Want Higher Quality Audio ....whats The Diff Between A 4/4 Audiophile And Say Delta 44...they Claim To Have The Same A-d D-a Converters In The Audiophile??and How Difficult Will A New Card Be To Install??
Also Is There Ant Benefit To Running A New Card With My Stock One.......thanks

The M-audio Audiophile soundcard is a pretty good one to start with.

runs you around 130 bucks

M-audio is great. I paid about $300.00 CDN for my 4in/4out, gonna upgrade to a 10 i think

The audiophile is only a 2 analog input card.
For 4 analog inputs, the Delta 44 can be had for $150. If you need more, the delta 1010lt has 8 inputs for $220.

The a/d convertors in the delta cards are pretty good - not in the same league as truly professional cards, but for the money you spend, they're a good deal.

The cards are a snap to install. You can run them alongside your existing card - maybe your old card has a midi input which the 44 doesn't. Personally I prefer not to

Your saying you can run 2 diff. sound cards? maybe I misunderstood ya. Wonder what conflicts that would create.

M-audio's drivers are made to handle any of the delta series cards...and in various combinations. Yes, you can have 1 delta 66 and one Delta 44, or two audiophiles, or whatever. If you're feeling really daring, you can go for three or four, and _theoretically_ it should work (though you never know how IRQ sharing on PCI slots can mess things up...)

In any case, one M-audio driver, multiple M-audio cards is a go.

If it delivers what you need, the E-mu 1212M is worth checking. Also, the Echo Mia is a nice card with great drivers, though now a bit more expensive than its direct competition, the Audiophile...

I just went from the Audiophile 2496 to the E-mu 1212m.

I'll be a monkey's left nut if it isn't the biggest improvement I've made for my studio since I bought my Rode mic!

I don't want to be too glowing about the E-mu cards. I personally love my 1820, but newbies might look at those specs and say...WOW..and run and buy it...before realizing that it can't work fully with Cool Edit Pro or Adobe Audtion or earlier Cakewalk WDM/MME only apps or surround DVD playback...

It's a frigging fantastic card that really delivers the goods...but the drivers keep it from delivering the goods for all types of users, especially those who need more than just good ASIO drivers...

Windows systems aren't usually designed to detect more than one soundcard at a time. Not to sure.

Mac's however, can

emu 1820m

I just upgraded to the E-MU 1820m from an Audigy2. Damn..what a difference. Now keep in mind it cost me $499 (3 payments of $166 from American Musical Supply) but there is an amazing difference in quality. If you are thinking about spending $300, look into the 1820m. It might save you an upgrade down the road, depending on the quality and versitility you are looking for.

Correct Me If Im Wrong But Isnt The Audiophile 2496 A 4input Card As Well...

Yeah ... it's a 4 input card, but two of the inputs are via SPDIF. So, unless one has some gear that has SPDIF out, those inputs are basically useless.
This leaves you with just the two analog inputs.

um, actually windows has no problem doing it.

you can run an audigy for example for your dvd playback or whatever, and select , also for example, an emu 1820m for your recording necessities.

Sklathill..ONLY playback?
REALLY
Because I've been recording with my 1212M on CE2 for the past 3 weeks.
