Wasn't sure where to post this but since I do use SONAR I thought best to start here.

I've managed to find a few freebie noise gate plug-ins on the www and I think SONAR came with one as well but, I'm not real pleased with their performance. After implementing these gates, I can hear slight artifacting way down low I think more than one of them actually created noise throughout the tracks.

I'm looking to the many of you with experience in this area...which noise gate plug-in has worked best for you? My desire is to mostly use it to mitigate ambient or background noise as detected by my mics.

Thanks

Another option which you have is to use an envelope to trigger the mute button..

It may sound like a lot of work, but I use the cut tool and slip edit the not so silent passages.

Thanks for the responses but I've gotta say...yikes...while doable, the thought of having to edit out all the silent passages really brings me down. In fact, that's the way I have been doing it...very time consuming.

Anyone else?

Try the Sonitus gate. Works great. Has all the tools including emphasis filters.

Thanks Wayne,

Since you're suggesting a product through Cakewalk, just wondering if you've tried the SoundSoap yet? If so, can it be used for similar work? Again, I'm trying to take a some of the ambient room noise and signal chain noise out of my tracks. Mostly a clean up tool.

Regards

I wondered about your application; one thing the Sonitus gate does not do is low-ratio expansion chores, although you can limit how many db's it reduces too -I think. Pretty sure.. :D
Don't know the other one.
