Best mixer for under $300?

Enough to record at least 1 person at a time for my band. I dont even know what a buse is...

I can find 4 mics, even if they arent directly qualified (ie bass mic), and i am getting an sm57 for guitars and bass. I want to use up to 10 drums, but drums are the only things i need to mic 4 tracks at the same time. I dont know if should use a computer and record with that or buy a thing like a mr-8 by fostex, considering i dont have a laptop or a very transporterable computer. I dont know if my soundcard has 4 inputs.

Well, the way it looks you might as well get a two bus mixer, meaning has two outs for the mics, so you record in stereo. The MR-8 has two inputs. I would look at either the Soundcraft Compact Series, or the Yamaha MG10/2.

Didnt you say i needed 4 inputs for drums? And also do you consider the MR-8 a mixer, or a recorder? OR should i be doing this on my computer?

I would go the computer route, get a four input soundcard, Delta 44, and use it with a 4 bus mixer, Yamaha MG12/4 or Soundcraft Compact.

Does a Tascam US-122 do the same job as a delta 44?
Why do a i need a yamaha and a soundcraft compact mixer. isnt one enough?

I meant or, not and. I wouldn't go with a USB i/o. Go with PCI or PCMIA if using laptop

I used the US122 to record the song in my signature line. I am very satisfied with the US122.

The challenge you seem to have is getting the drums into the mix. Drums are typically recorded with several mics. It is very possible to get a good drum track by using two overhead condensers. If you need to use several mics to get a drum track, you would mix it in the mixer, and then record it to your PC as a stereo track.
