best microphone for live performances?

hey there guys! :) well basically im looking for a good quality microphone that i can perform with live. i have a budget of basically 300 so thats the only down side.. i've heard about the shure beta. so suggest me good ones, oh an by the way i dont do singing, i do the rap in the band. i dont know if that has anything to do with anything BUT just telling u. thanks, id really appreciate it! :)
 
Hey, my band (genre:rock) uses all sure beta 58A's and we love them. Prior to them we were using some really old sure 57's and we find a noticible difference with the 58A's. just my $.02
 
On a loud soundstage, I like the Audix OM6. This new Telefunken M-80 mic might be pretty good too, although it is so new that only a 100 of them have shipped so far (one of which will be mine). The next couple 1000 are currently in production.
